Saving Lo-Sheng

Resisting the demolition of a former Hansen´s Disease sanatorium in Taiwan

The planned shutdown of a former “leprosy ” sanatorium called Lo Sheng, near Taipei, threatened to evict old people with Hanson’s Disease. At first forced at gunpoint by the Japanese colonisers to move there in the 1940’s, now Lo Sheng has over the decades become a comfortable home to them. In recent years a large struggle grew to save Lo Sheng from destruction by the bulldozer, with seeming indifference from city officials. (3:51 min)
